Jean Noel Chazelle
French Artist
I work on the retina, vision, that is to say perception. On what we think we see and in fact,
we don’t see. They say that vision is three-dimensional. This concept was established during
the Renaissance. And I find it a little ridiculous. We should question this. This concept is false
because it is based on fear
Jean‑Noël Chazelle is a French multidisciplinary artist born in Dakar and based in Paris, working across painting, sculpture, performance, installation, photography, film, and sound. Deeply influenced by light, metamorphosis, and the relationship between the infinitely large and the infinitely small, he developed a distinctive four‑dimensional approach to painting, often using acrylic on plexiglass—a technique he began exploring in 1997 after seven years of performance work at the Clédalique Gallery in Cadaqués, founded by Salvador Dalí and Miette.
His career includes exhibitions across Europe, the United States, and the Middle East, with works entering major private and institutional collections such as the DeRosa/Guggenheim collection, the Bob & Mary Decelles collection, the Bo Peabody collection, and the Joseph Nahmad collection. He has exhibited in Paris, Berlin, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Chicago, Athens, Geneva, and Cadaqués, among many others. His work has also been shown at international art fairs including Lille, Chicago, Monaco, Cannes, and the Louvre Art Fair.
Chazelle is also an accomplished poet. His poetry books Star‑Blood, Pearl Eye Medium, and Le Sang de l’Étoile were all published to strong reception, with readings held at Shakespeare & Co. in Paris, the Henry Miller Library, and Sprechsaal Gallery in Berlin in the presence of the Burroughs Estate, the Ginsberg Trust, and the Henry Miller Foundation.
In 2021, he received the Award of Merit during FIAC at the French Senate, recognizing him as a “remarkable ambassador of French creativity.” He continues to present exhibitions, performances, and philosophical conferences internationally. Upcoming exhibitions include the Museum of Water Civilization in Marrakech and Gallery 27 Dubai in 2025, as well as the Beaux‑Arts of Dakar in 2026.
